Continuing our designer highlight series, this week we’d like you to get to know Sarah Carr. Enjoy!

A native of Brandon, Mississippi, Sarah Carr received a degree in Interior Design from the University of Southern Mississippi. Before moving to Jackson to join the design team at Batte Furniture & Interiors, Sarah worked in the interior design field in Hattiesburg for four years.

Utilizing her experience in custom window treatments, rugs, furniture (even flooring!), Sarah creates a warm a home her clients can love from top to bottom. She prides herself on solving design problems creatively, finding a client’s design voice, and building lasting relationships with clients.

An LEED-AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional) since 2009, Sarah searches for opportunities to incorporate Green design into every home.

Design style: Like many designers my style is eclectic, but I tend to use a clean and unassuming design. I love mixing classic with modern and sleek with rustic. Never fussy!

Dream client: All clients are different, and I love getting to know them and their own design style personally, but I can really guide a client who has an open mind and is willing to challenge themselves. The process should let them express themselves and find their own voice, not mine.

Client A wants a total overhaul. What’s your preferred way to start? Inspiration! Whether it be a vacation, a painting, a family heirloom, or a page from a magazine.

What’s your go-to paint color? I love Ben Moore’s White Dove and Revere Pewter.

Furniture or accessory every home could benefit from: An antique. It doesn’t have to be fussy, but I think a house—old or new—should have something with history, to ground it and make it feel like home.

Where do you find inspiration for your work? Everywhere. I pull inspiration from movies, books, magazines, music, art, and dare I say my mood sometimes.

Interior trend you could have done without: I never really got into mirrored furniture, but that is because a lot of it doesn’t appear well-made.

Best work-related advice you’ve ever gotten: Grow and learn every day while rooted in experience and confidence. I think that can be applied to all walks of life, but in design if you are not evolving you are behind.

Best advice you could give someone beginning a design project: It’s JUST furniture. Breathe.
